Midnight Special
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
"Midnight Special " is a point-and-click survival horror game inspired by classic 90s LucasArts titles like "Clock Tower" and "Resident Evil". Set in the late 80s at Boyd Manor, you play as Sarah, who's been tasked with babysitting Jon and Eli Boyd for the night.
What starts out as a routine evening takes a sinister turn when the power suddenly cuts out, leaving the house shrouded in darkness. As you navigate through the decrepit mansion to unravel the mystery of the children's disappearance, bizarre events unfold before your eyes: bizarre phone calls, a deranged stalker perhaps? Unpleasant odors coming from beneath the floorboards. Inanimate objects coming to life. A life-size talking plastic dinosaur?
Has Sarah lost her mind?

I just finished the game and it was such a unique, intense experience. The atmosphere, story, and presentation really stand out. I knew from the start this game would be something special—and it absolutely delivered. Huge respect to the devs!
Going to play this now :) upload on my YT channel ....looks great
The story manages to be sophisticated yet not rigid, which I really appreciate. I wonder how many branching paths there are in total—hopefully it's the kind of game where different choices lead to different endings, rather than everything funneling into a single conclusion
When I play, the screen often freezes. I wonder if others have encountered the same issue?
Hi. can you give us some specific steps? Not sure what issue you are encountering.
This is great timing because I’m obsessed with pixel art - I’m definitely going to have to give this game a try!
Really need to be supported playing with a controller. I'm so into it.
The official account I often follow released this game, so I came to take a look. I searched for some blogger videos on YouTube, but overall I felt that there was no big climax to play.
I played for around 20 minutes, then had to leave. Game had a Load selection so I thought it would autosave, but alas no. It felt like I was just a servant, doing what everyone asks or expects and that ultimately ends up being boring.
Wow, I haven't seen such a game for a long time.
I hope the author can support playing with a controller
Hi KennethB. Thank you for taking the time to play our game and comment. yes, eventually we will implement controller support for PC and also SteamDeck. Thanks again!
At first, I was drawn in by the cover—it looked like a retro mini-game. After downloading the demo, I realized it was actually a puzzle game. But the demo was a bit too short; I didn’t even get a proper feel for the main storyline...
After playing the demo, I found that the theme is horror. I wonder if the children will be rescued together with Sarah in the end? I have guessed several possibilities - the demo has aroused my curiosity!!!
At the end of the trailer, Sarah fell in a pool of blood. Is it because she died?
Hi! Thanks for playing our game! The pool of blood is just a nifty little menu feature. If you "Continue" she opens her eyes, if you "Quit Game" she dies.
I stumbled upon this game through a YouTuber's review, downloaded the demo on itch.io, and it looks amazing! Can't wait for the full version!
Thank you for taking the time to play the demo. We're glad you enjoyed it!
I downloaded the Mac package, but after extracting it, I couldn't open it—it doesn't work on Mac. However, I've been having a great time playing it on the Windows platform
The author might want to check if there's an issue with the Mac package.
Hello! Yes, we just got reports that the MAC package is not working. A new working build will be uploaded ASAP. Thank you!
This demo instantly brought back the fun of classic point-and-click adventures! The puzzles are cleverly designed, and the art style is full of nostalgic charm - I completely lost myself in it.
If I had to suggest one improvement, it'd be great to optimize the inventory interaction. There's a slight delay when clicking items that occasionally breaks the puzzle-solving flow. That said, the overall experience is fantastic, and I encountered no game-breaking bugs or stuck points.
Can't wait to see how the full story unfolds - keep up the great work!
This game has an art style very similar to Clock Tower, and the overall storyline is decent. I'm a bit curious to see the full version and find out what ultimately happens to the children.
Midnight Special is a short but well-crafted horror game with an incredibly immersive atmosphere. The pixel-art visuals and eerie soundtrack instantly pull you into its unsettling midnight train setting. While the jump scares aren’t particularly original, a few scenes genuinely got me—especially the first time I encountered that thing…
The puzzles aren’t too difficult but require careful observation of the environment, making it great for exploration-focused players. The story is fragmented, leaving you to piece together clues yourself—a narrative style I really enjoyed. That said, the ending felt a bit abrupt, and I wish there was more content to expand on it.
As for flaws, the controls can feel a bit clunky at times, and sprinting doesn’t always respond smoothly. The game is also quite short, taking roughly an hour to finish. But considering it’s free, the overall experience is definitely worth a try!
Really enjoyed my time with Midnight Special! I have a few beefs, but since this is still in incubation, I am excited to see what's next! Will definitely be playing this when it's completed.

Almost creepy pasta vibes, keep that vibe going. game will be
nice!!!
Thank you for taking the time to play the game and for the vote of confidence!
This looks like it's going to be a fantastic game when it launches.
Thank you for taking the time to play our game! It's always wonderful to see people enjoy it.
Hi !
I've really enjoyed the nostalgia vibe of this demo as I've played a lot of point and click games as a kid and I'm curious to discover the full game.
If I can make a suggestion, it could be really cool to be able to switch off the sound that we hear when some text is displayed on the screen. This kind of repetitive sound really triggers my nerves and I guess it's the same for some other players, but appart from that, I've had a great time playing this demo and haven't noticed any bug.
Can't wait for the full release !
Hi there. Thank you for your feedback. We'll upload a new demo in a few days that will offer toggle options for the sound, the crt, and other stuff. Glad you enjoyed it! Have a great day!
Nice ! Thank you :-)
Absolutely loved the demo.
Thank you Horror Historian! We're always thrilled when people enjoy our work. Keep up to great work!
Was here because of the Manly YouTube video. Then really drawn to the impressive art style and retro sound design. Keep up the good work, and I'm looking forward to its official release ☺️
Manly is truly a man of the indies. We owe him a lot. Thank you for taking the time to play our demo!
Loved how this game feels very reminiscent of Clock Tower, especially encompassing the 16-bit graphical style and point-and-click gameplay. Well done and can't wait to see the eventual release! Check out my Full Demo Gameplay video here:
Thank you for taking the time to play our demo! You might see us say the same thing to everyone—how grateful we are and how thrilled we are that you enjoyed it. But it’s true. We genuinely appreciate each and every one of you. Keep up the great work!
I like this game so much. I came here from the anchor's explanation. I look forward to the day when the author puts it on the shelves.
thank you so much for making this test demo there's a lot of potential for this game I really enjoyed it the art styles absolutely beautiful there were a couple of glitches like if I had the lighter on in the forest the game will tell me to turn on the lighter so I turn it off and then turn it back on but then the main character gets stuck she can't interact or walk she's literally stuck but if I go back to that section and turn off the lighter and then the game tells me to turn it on then it will work and I can continue playing it's hard to describe it I showed most of the glitches in my Let's Play video I did so you can see it there to understand what happened if I'm not explaining it the best but besides that there was rarely any glitches I thought the game was overall pretty good and I'm really excited to see more of it it's really good and I just I really enjoyed the demo so thank you Developers for making this game and making the test demo and I wish you all the best luck on finishing your project and I'm excited to see more of Midnight Special
here's my Let's Play video of Midnight Special if anyone's interested watching and the glitches I talked about in my review if I couldn't explain it super well then hopefully the video will show it much better than me explaining it
Great point and click game, loved it!!
the post-prologue is awesome! can't wait to see what's going on!! good work and please continue! :)
Thank you all for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed the demo. If you have a moment, please rate us, it really does help with visibility. Thank you!

Nice game! Very promising, I love the music!
The game is really interesting and the inspiration from Clock Tower is clear. Good atmosphere.
Interesting game for sure and nice artstyle as well. I look forward to seeing this game develop.

WOW JUST WOW
I CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE OMFG
I loved this demo!! The art style is fantastic, and it had a great atmosphere. Very excited to see it when its out of development!
This game is incredible and worth it for the amazing sprite art alone! Especially If you loved horror games growing up like Clock Tower, this is an absolute MUST for any horror fan!
Great nostalgic point and click horror game.
Still in development but has amazing atmosphere and lots of potential.
Looking forward to future updates and a full release.
Hi! I just played your Demo and I have to say that I see potential here. The art is great, the atmosphere is dense and I LOVE the Resident Evil touches (like the doors).
That said, I found many bugs and weird design choices that made the experience quite rough. Nevertheless, I understand is an early work in progress so I won't delve into that. For the time being I am eager to see how the game evolves.
Good work.
Hi. Thanks for your feedback. We're working on a more polished demo that should be out sometime next week (with extra gameplay). Regarding the weird design choices, we're not exactly sure what you mean. If you're referring to the intrusive objective popups, they're being fixed as we speak for the next release, and so are some of the more annoying bugs. That being said, if you encountered a specific issue that you feel was problematic, please share it with us and we'll do our best to fix it.
Thanks again! Have a great one.
Very good game
Hello! We're glad you enjoyed it! We'll be releasing a new version of the demo soon with 20+ extra minutes of free gameplay, and we'll also fix a few issues. We've noticed that people struggle with the popups interrupting gameplay, so we'll address that.
